Churches around the world, and particularly in Atlanta, are in dire need of musicians. This may include saxophonists and guitarists, but most importantly, keyboardists or pianists. And there are many reasons for this, but one of the main reasons is the fact that not many musicians are trained. Is this because there aren't enough music schools in the Atlanta area? No, because there are enough music schools offering piano lessons in Atlanta, but there's probably not enough incentive when it comes to being involved in the church, and so in this regard, we want to look at how we can create enough incentive for pianists and other musicians so ministries can grow effectively for years to come.

1) Make The Church Musician Friendly

This doesn't mean that everything's going to be towards the music or worship team, but it does mean that you would be sensitive to the needs of those individuals as they work to build the ministry to the glory of God. Now this can include arranging times when the worship team can meet with the pastor to voice any opinions, or choose the songs for the upcoming Sunday. You can also ensure that there's a welcoming environment during worship team rehearsals. Many of these things can be very impactful.

2) Involve young people

Involve young people by letting them know that they are next in line to take over. It's important that each ministry focuses on its young people and their place in the ministry, because one of the things that can hurt a ministry in the long term is when the young people don't know that they are being considered to take on the roles of older ministers and musicians in the ministry. When you make this a big deal, it helps to make young people feel as if they're welcomed, involved and needed.

And so in this regard, you can choose to have a youth Sunday where young musicians are trained to accompany the youth choir. This means that each senior musician becomes a music teacher for a young person.

Another example of involving young people is by having them play one or two songs for the regular choir on any given Sunday. This way, your youth are not just relegated to the youth department, but also involved in the adult ministry.

3) Financial Incentives Are Good

Financial incentive is good as well, if it can be done. If your ministry can afford it, if it's something that your eldership team has agreed upon, then financially assisting up-and-coming musicians and present musicians will be a great help in terms of setting the bar high for the worship team and helping the team grow in each passing generation.

Whereas before you let everybody know that there is a succession, now you can let everybody know that there is a reward for that succession. This will help motivate young people to learn an instrument and become involved in the music ministry.
